The Sappho series continues my interest in juxtaposing closely cropped imagery of flowers with lines of erotic verse. The irises in these images were from my mother's garden. The Greek goddess Iris is the personification of the rainbow, the messenger of the Gods. The rainbow colours of the iris and the purples in particular provide a link to the titles which are from a translation of the poetry of ancient Greek poetess Sappho (c.630BC) of Lesbos.
